Carissa Ellis

Carissa Ellis holds both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Criminology & Criminal Justice from California State University, Long Beach. She brings practical experience from work in the detective’s bureau of a local police department and as a paralegal and legal assistant. As an undergraduate, she published research on federal counterterrorism strategies and worked as a research assistant on projects related to policing and community-based crime prevention. She completed both degrees with honors.
 
Carissa teaches The Criminal Justice System in Society, Criminal Courts and Judicial Processes, and Delinquency and the Juvenile Justice System at both undergraduate and graduate levels. She is currently contributing to a qualitative evaluation of a holistic public defense program.
 
Committed to reform-minded scholarship, Carissa encourages students to think critically about the criminal justice system and its challenges.
